Resume Dr. ing. Marcel J.E. Fischer Dr. ing. Marcel J.E. Fischer studied chemistry at the HTS in Rotterdam. In 1976 he worked as a trainee at the Organic Chemistry Institution of TNO in Utrecht on a study storing solar energy into chemical compounds. From 1978 he joined the Faculty of Dentistry in Utrecht, where he studied among others mechanisms around dental uptake and release of fluorine. In 1985 he started at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Utrecht doing research on the structure of albumin in relation to drug binding. He received his PhD in 1996 with a thesis on inhibitory effects of anti-allergics on exocytosis in mast cells and their related membrane interactions. After that he started his present research field: the biophysical characterization of biomolecular interactions. His main interest is the molecular structure and the thermodynamic behaviour in ligand-receptor binding. Surface plasmon resonance is one of the important tools used in this research. Targets are at present immunoreceptors and glycoproteins. |
